Continuous assessment: independent work

Objective: To teach students advanced work in the graphic programmes Gimp, Inkscape and Blender.

Course syllabus:

  1. Use of "vector" elements (paths, selections, gfig plugin) when drawing images in Gimp.
  2. Creating simple animation in Gimp.
  3. Overview of the most interesting Gimp extensions (plugins). Example of installing a new extension.
  4. Use of path effects in Inkscape.
  5. Use of the filter editor and overview of the most interesting filters and extensions in Inkscape.
  6. Advanced work with tiled clones in Inkscape.
  7. More advanced editing of object meshes in Blender.
  8. The importance of lighting and working with lights in Blender.
  9. Materials and textures in Blender – advanced settings.
  10. Animation using bones, inverse kinematics and use of curves in animations in Blender.
  11. Introduction to physics and particle systems in Blender, example of simple use.
  12. Game creation in Blender.

Assessment method:

To be awarded a grade from A to E, it is required to work on projects (each takes approximately half to one hour) and regularly submit/present them in class (within two weeks of assignment). One submission by email is allowed if illness or another event prevents you from attending the class. Further email submissions will not be accepted. Failure to submit an assignment results in 1 penalty point; late submission (more than 2 weeks after assignment) or insufficient quality of the submitted work results in 1/2 penalty point. Assignments are given after each lecture, except for the last two weeks before the end of the semester. Assignments submitted after the semester ends will not be considered. The final grade is calculated by subtracting all your penalty points from an A grade. In the worst case, if your penalty points exceed 4, your final grade will be Fx.
